Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) begins next week

The FXFL begins action next week. If you're like me, you're probably asking what on each is the FXFL and why should I care? The FXFL stands for the Fall Experimental Football League. It will suit up with 4 teams. Currently 3 of the teams are scheduled to play 5 games while one team, the Blacktips, are scheduled to play only 3 games, all road games. The Blacktips were originally supposed to be located in Miami and go by the name Florida, but they dropped the Florida part after not finding a home venue.

The lack of a home venue for the Blacktips also altered the schedule intentions of the FXFL. The FXFL was originally hoping that each team would be able to play a home-and-home series.

The games are scheduled to be televised on regional sports networks across the US. SNY (Brooklyn), NESN (Boston), Cox Sports South (Blacktips), Comcast Northwest, Comcast Chicago, and Altitude (Omaha) will carry the games.

For those wondering why the strange Comcast Northwest broadcast, one of the two teams originally announced that will not play this season is Portland. As for why Comcast Chicago is on there, I have no idea. I suspect Time Warner's Texas Channel would be added if the Austin Outlaws were playing this season. Below is the current schedule.

2014 FIBA Women's World Championships US Schedule

The 2014 FIBA Women's Basketball World Championships begin this Saturday. As was the case for the men's, every game will be streamed live on ESPN3. Every US game will also be shown live on NBATV. For all rounds both NBATV and ESPN3 will use the FIBA broadcast feed, minus the Championship. The championship will be shown live on ESPN2 and will utilize their talent Here's the details. As games are set from the qualification round on, I will update the schedule here.

The 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women will be shown across ESPN platforms in its entirety, including the Final on ESPN2 and WatchESPN on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. ET. The US team is guaranteed to play three group phase games. The first 39 games of the international tournament – held from multiple sites in Turkey – will be carried on ESPN3 from the FIBA world feed.
The 16-team tournament is split into four groups of four that will compete in a round-robin format in the Group Phase from Ankara Arena, in Ankara, Turkey and Abdi Ipekçi Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. The top team from each group advances to the quarterfinals, while the No. 2 and No. 3 teams from group play participate in a qualification game to reach the quarterfinals.
The single-elimination quarterfinal, placement and title games will be played from Fenerbahçe Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.
ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network which is accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and streamed on televisions through Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast (via the WatchESPN app), Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. For the entire ESPN3 schedule, visit ESPN MediaZone.
In addition, every game will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 or Xbox One to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Commentator pairings include Michael Bett from Ankara Arena and Jeff Taylor and Lloyd Gardner from Abdi Ipekçi Arena. Bett and Taylor will pair for the single-elimination rounds from Fenerbahçe Arena. Women’s basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo will provide analysis for the title game on ESPN2 with play-by-play commentator Pam Ward.
espnW will have tournament-long coverage with columns by Mechelle Voepel, beginning with a piece this week analyzing the final roster, and continuing with recaps of every USA game.
USA Basketball Women’s National Team Roster
The USA Basketball team will be led by nine-time NCAA Champion Geno Auriemma as head coach, and is headlined by 2008 and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist players Seimone Augustus, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi. Bird becomes the first four-time USA World Championship Team member.
The 2010 USA Women’s Basketball team – featuring Augustus, Bird and Taurasi, along with Tina Charles, Lindsey Whalen, Candice Dupree, Angel McCoughtry and Maya Moore, defeated the Czech Republic in for the FIBA World Championship title.
